Oral history interview with Christy Rushing, 2007 November 29.

Rushing relates that the polio she contracted as an 18 month old child was misdiagnosed as laryngotracheitis. As a child she underwent several surgeries to correct a limp and was sent to Smouse School in Des Moines for physically disabled children. Health problems later in life were attributed to having had polio as a child. She describes how others have reacted to her disability and the chronic pain she suffers as a post-polio patient.
